NDC Takes Transparency Pitch to 2027 Race, Sets Monday for Financial Disclosure

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is putting financial transparency at the centre of its political message ahead of the 2027 general elections, announcing plans to unveil its National Campaign Council and disclose its accounts at a meeting in Abuja on Monday.
The party said its National Treasurer would present its statement of account at the third meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC), scheduled for 10 a.m. on October 26 at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja.
In a statement issued on Friday, the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the financial disclosure reflected the party’s commitment to accountability and challenged other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to adopt similar practices.

“For the NDC, it is no longer politics as usual,” the party declared.
However, the party’s announcement also offered a glimpse into the financial challenges it says some of its candidates are facing ahead of the elections.
The NDC claimed that about 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford Expression of Interest forms because of the prevailing economic hardship.
It said it had to provide the forms free of charge to the affected candidates, blaming poverty, hunger and deprivation on the APC-led government’s economic policies.

The claims were contained in the party’s statement announcing the NEC meeting.
Monday’s gathering will also see the unveiling of the NDC’s National Campaign Council, a structure the party said would bring together its campaign operations across the various elective offices.
According to the party, the council will cover the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.
The NDC also announced that its candidates would receive Certificates of Return for their respective offices during the meeting.
The planned unveiling signals the party’s move to consolidate its campaign structure as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 polls.
While presenting transparency as a key part of its political identity, the NDC said it was determined to offer Nigerians what it described as altruistic leadership.
It reiterated its slogan: “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
