In a bold move, the Nigeria Customs Service Board has announced significant management changes and disciplinary actions, setting a new tone for the agency. During its 65th Regular Meeting, chaired by Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, the board appointed Constantine Dim as Deputy Comptroller-General, along with five new Assistant Comptroller-Generals: Pascal Chibuoke, Ethelbert Nnaji, Sani Yahaya, Franklin Onyeka, and Chibuzor Eyakwaire.
These appointments align with the Federal Character Policy and come in response to the recent retirement of several key officers. In a push towards modernization, the board has also upgraded the NCS Medical Corps to sub-department status, now managed by an Assistant Comptroller-General and supported by nine Comptrollers.
On the disciplinary front, the board took decisive actions against several officers, enacting a range of sanctions from dismissals and compulsory retirements to reinstatements, showcasing a commitment to accountability within the service.
Highlighting operational successes, the meeting revealed that the NCS has collected ₦4.30 trillion in revenue as of June, achieving 36.4% of its annual target of ₦11.074 trillion, driven by the implementation of the Unified Customs Management System, B’Odogwu.
The board also greenlit the Nigeria Customs Service De-Minimis Regulation, 2025, alongside discussions on ongoing digital transformation initiatives across various operational areas. Furthermore, candidates selected from the recent recruitment exercise have been invited for documentation and medical screenings starting Monday, paving the way for fresh talent within the service.
Amidst these changes, plans for proposed amendments to the NCS Act are on the horizon, with an eye towards inclusion in the upcoming 2027 Finance Bill, signaling a proactive approach to refining and enhancing the agency’s framework for the future.
