Nasarawa Targets Over 1 Million Children in Malaria Prevention Drive

In a major health push, the Nasarawa State Government will administer life-saving malaria prevention drugs to more than 1,037,000 children under five.

Health Commissioner Dr. Gaza Gwamna says the four-day Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention campaign kicks off during peak malaria season, using safe, WHO-approved drugs Sulfadoxine–Pyrimethamine and Amodiaquine.

The drive will reach 196,000 infants aged 3–11 months and 840,000 toddlers aged 12–59 months, backed by the Malaria Consortium.

Over 11,000 trained ad-hoc staff will go door-to-door to deliver the treatment.

Parents are urged to cooperate, as the programme has already helped cut malaria cases in the state to 15 percent.

Dr. Gwamna says it reflects Governor Abdullahi Sule’s strong commitment to protecting lives.
