NAPS Commends Defence Minister Badaru on Improved Campus Security
The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has applauded the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, for his commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
During a courtesy visit to the Minister at the Defence Headquarters, Ship House, Abuja, on Tuesday, the student body, led by its National President, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan, noted significant improvements in security within polytechnics nationwide.
Oghayan, who spoke on behalf of the delegation, said the visit was to convey the appreciation of over 20 million polytechnic students to the Minister for prioritizing the safety of campuses. He added that the association recognizes the efforts of security agencies under the Defence Ministry in addressing threats affecting learning environments.
“We are here to say thank you to the Honourable Minister for his unwavering support and commitment to the welfare of students. Security is central to education, and the improvement we are witnessing today gives us confidence that our future is in safe hands,” Oghayan said.

In his response, Minister Badaru assured the student leaders of the Federal Government’s continued efforts to protect educational institutions across the country. He noted that the safety of young people, particularly students, is critical to Nigeria’s growth and stability.
“Your visit is a great encouragement to us. The security of students and learning environments remains a priority, and we will continue to work with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that no Nigerian student studies in fear,” the Minister said.
The NAPS leadership also reaffirmed its readiness to partner with the Ministry of Defence in sensitizing students on security awareness and fostering patriotism among Nigerian youths.
