MACBAN Condemns Killing Of Nine Herdsmen In Kogi Community

The Kogi State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has condemned the killing of nine pastoralists in the Ika district of Ankpa Local Government Area, describing the attack as barbaric and a threat to peaceful coexistence.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the association’s secretary, Suleiman Muhammed, the group said it was deeply saddened and outraged by the gruesome attack which reportedly claimed the lives of men, women and children.
The victims were identified as Isiaka Lawal, Larai Musa, wife of Isiaka Lawal, Abdullahi Isiaka, Isah Isiaka, Saleh Isiaka, Samsiya Adamu, Asma’u Siuni, Basullube Musa and Bello Musa.
According to the association, three others — Husseini Haruna, Abdullahi Abdullahi and Sa’ida Haruna — sustained varying degrees of injuries during the incident.
MACBAN, while not naming the attackers, strongly condemned the killings and called on security agencies to immediately investigate the attack, arrest those responsible and ensure justice is served.
“The continued targeting and killing of innocent pastoral communities is dangerous, unacceptable and capable of worsening tensions among peaceful communities,” the statement read.
The association warned that persistent attacks on innocent citizens, regardless of ethnicity, religion or occupation, could threaten peace and stability in the state if urgent action is not taken.
It also expressed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
The group appealed to governments at all levels, humanitarian organisations and relevant authorities to provide urgent relief materials and medical assistance to affected families.
MACBAN further urged members of the pastoralist community and residents of the area to remain calm and law-abiding while allowing security agencies to carry out investigations into the incident.
Reaffirming the need for unity and equal protection for all Nigerians, the association stressed that the sanctity of human life must be respected at all times, noting that every citizen deserves justice and security under the law.
The attack reportedly occurred after a Fulani pastoralist settlement in Ika-Achele was set ablaze on Thursday, leaving nine persons dead, including women and children.
About 200 cattle were also reportedly rustled, while some injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Ankpa General Hospital.
