Lamido Puts Ex-IGP in Charge as Jigawa PDP Unveils Expanded 2027 Campaign Structure
The Jigawa State governorship campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is taking shape around a network of political veterans, a former Inspector-General of Police and influential figures assigned to oversee security, strategy, finance, media and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 election.
At the centre of the structure is PDP governorship candidate Mustapha Sule Lamido, who has placed former IGP Suleiman Abba in charge of security while former minister Nuraddeen Mohammed takes responsibility for strategy and mobilisation.
The appointments form part of a wider campaign machinery designed to operate across Jigawa’s three senatorial zones and 27 local government areas.

Abba heads the Security Committee, while Mohammed leads Strategy and Mobilisation.
Aminu Wada Abubakar is responsible for Finance and Fund-Raising, Umar Kyari heads Media and Publicity, and Dr Umar Birniwa oversees Planning, Research, Organisation, Documentation and Venue.
The youth mobilisation arm is headed by Fahad Hashim, while Hajiya Murja Aliyu Garki leads Women Mobilisation.
The structure also places prominent political figures at the head of the three senatorial coordinating blocs.
Ambassador Ibrahim Musa Kazaure heads the Northwest committee, Senator Mustapha Khabeeb leads the Central zone, while Yusuf Saleh Dunari heads the Northeast structure.
Each zonal committee is expected to bring together party executives, local government chairmen, National and State Assembly candidates, youth and women leaders, campaign council members and former political office holders.
At the grassroots, the arrangement provides for campaign committees in every local government area, bringing together candidates, party executives, ward leaders, former government officials and representatives of traditional institutions, religious scholars, business, academia and support groups.
The structure gives separate responsibilities to key figures across security, strategy, fundraising, publicity, research and mobilisation, while linking the state leadership to zonal, local government and ward-level structures.
The emergence of Abba and Mohammed in two of the campaign’s central positions is particularly notable. Both were previously assigned senior responsibilities in Lamido’s campaign organisation.
The development comes as political parties in Jigawa continue to organise their structures ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.
The formal inauguration of the committees is expected to be announced by the campaign leadership.
