Lamido Loyalists Counter Turaki Supporters, Reaffirm Founding Father’s Place in PDP Leadership

Supporters of former Jigawa State Governor and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Sule Lamido, have issued a strong response to claims by a group identifying itself as the PDP National Youth Movement, which questioned Lamido’s suitability to lead the party.
In a statement titled “Constructive Response to the Supporters of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki,” the Lamido loyalists dismissed the group’s assertions as misleading and historically inaccurate, insisting that Dr. Lamido remains one of the PDP’s most loyal and consistent figures since its formation in 1998.
“It is essential to note that Dr. Sule Lamido is not only a member of the PDP; he is one of its founding fathers and integral thinkers,” the statement said. “Since 1998, Lamido has demonstrated steadfast loyalty to the PDP, consistently supporting its goals and values without defecting or betraying the party.”
The group maintained that Lamido’s track record stands in sharp contrast to that of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties, whose political conduct, they alleged, has sometimes raised questions about commitment to the party’s ideals.
“Conversely, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki’s political journey has raised concerns,” the statement continued. “Since 2015, there have been instances in Kebbi State where his alliances have resulted in division within the PDP.”
The statement also cited instances of alleged collaboration with figures from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as evidence that Turaki’s long-term vision for the PDP may not align with its core values.
“The evidence surrounding Turaki’s past actions, particularly his collaborations with APC figures, raises questions about his long-term vision for the PDP. Our goal should be to strengthen the PDP, not weaken it from within,” it added.
Reaffirming confidence in Dr. Lamido’s political philosophy, the group described him as a leader guided by courage, fairness, and national unity.
“Dr. Sule Lamido represents a leadership style rooted in courage, integrity, and a dedication to justice and service,” they noted. “His consistent advocacy for national unity can inspire us all as we strive for a brighter future.”
The group urged party members to focus on rebuilding the PDP through education, constructive dialogue, and renewed commitment to its founding principles rather than internal rivalries.
“As we work toward revitalizing the PDP, it is important to foster constructive dialogue and educate ourselves on the party’s history and values,” the statement said. “By engaging in meaningful conversations and encouraging learning among all members, we can create a stronger and more united PDP.”
In a conciliatory tone, the statement appealed to supporters of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki to reflect on the PDP’s founding ideals and work collectively toward unity rather than division.
“To the supporters of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, we invite you to join us in reflecting on the party’s journey and the leadership qualities that will drive us forward. Together, we can strengthen the PDP and uphold its core principles for the benefit of all.”
The response comes amid renewed debates within the PDP over leadership direction and party reform, as stakeholders across the country continue to push for a cohesive strategy ahead of future elections.
