The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former Agege Local Government chairman, Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi, and Azeez Yusuf following their move to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) after disputed party primaries.
The APC accused the duo of anti-party activities and disloyalty after they contested its 2026 House of Assembly primaries but later secured APM tickets for the same constituencies.
Egunjobi contested the APC ticket for Agege Constituency I, while Yusuf sought the nomination for Agege Constituency II.
Neither secured the APC ticket.
The party said members who lose internal contests are expected to accept the outcome or pursue available avenues of redress rather than seek another party’s ticket within the same electoral cycle.
Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, said the party invoked Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in expelling the two politicians.
The party also rejected their reported resignations, describing them as an attempt to avoid disciplinary action.
It declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf were no longer members of the APC and had no authority to represent or transact business on behalf of the party.
The expulsion follows a dispute over the outcome of the APC primaries.
Egunjobi and Yusuf had claimed that they won the respective exercises but that the party subsequently announced different candidates. They said they sought internal redress before deciding to leave the APC.
The two politicians subsequently emerged as APM candidates for Agege Constituencies I and II.
They have also denied that their decision was influenced by Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, despite being described in reports as his allies.
They said their decision to join the APM was personal and followed what they described as injustice in the APC primary process.
The latest development adds another layer to the political tensions surrounding the Lagos APC’s nomination process as the state prepares for the 2027 elections.
The APC, however, said its action was aimed at enforcing party discipline and protecting the integrity of its internal processes.
