In a major stride toward economic reform and youth empowerment, the Kogi State Government has launched a comprehensive training programme for 2,310 youths in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion technology.

The programme, which spans all 21 Local Government Areas, is being implemented in partnership with Sufpay Ltd and reflects the state’s commitment to clean energy innovation and job creation.

Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, announced the initiative in Lokoja on Friday, describing it as a strategic investment in Kogi’s future.

“We are creating a generation of skilled technicians who can drive the CNG revolution. This is not just training—it’s transformation,” Fanwo said.

He explained that the move aligns with national efforts to embrace cleaner energy while addressing unemployment and insecurity through non-kinetic, skills-based solutions.

“This is Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo delivering on his promise to build youth-driven development. Our young people are not just beneficiaries—they are the backbone of our growth agenda,” he added.

Training centres have been established in Lokoja, Okene, Idah, and Kabba, ensuring participants learn in accessible and familiar environments across the three Senatorial Districts.

The programme also highlights Kogi’s push to reduce petrol dependency and promote alternative energy sources, preparing the state for a more sustainable, innovation-led economy.

Fanwo commended Sufpay Ltd for its technical input and support, noting that the partnership was key to realizing the state’s vision for youth empowerment and energy transition.

With over 2,000 young people gaining practical skills in CNG technology, Kogi is setting a strong example of how sub-national governments can combine clean energy policy with human capital development to achieve inclusive growth.
