KGIRS Hits N3bn Monthly IGR, Rolls Out Automated Tax System to Block Leakages
By Friday Idachaba, Lokoja
The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) says it has raised its monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) capacity to ₦3 billion, following a raft of reforms designed to modernize tax administration and plug leakages.
Executive Chairman of the Service, Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe, disclosed this on Thursday at a Stewardship Accountability Forum organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Lokoja.
Enehe said the milestone was achieved through the introduction of a Central Billing System and Automated Taxation Process, which have tightened loopholes in revenue collection and boosted compliance.
“With the attainment of ₦3 billion monthly revenue, we have surpassed our projected income for the first half of the year,” Enehe said. “We are determined not only to sustain this figure but to push it higher.”
The chairman noted that the agency had also prioritized staff welfare, training, and promotions, ensuring a more motivated workforce. He added that KGIRS had been prudent in utilizing its 10 percent IGR allocation for salaries and day-to-day operations.
According to him, the reforms have created a “seamless and effective” tax administration system, positioning Kogi among states leveraging technology to drive financial independence.
Enehe expressed optimism about the new Nigeria Revenue Tax Act, expected to take effect in January 2026, which harmonizes multiple tax laws into a single document. He said the reform would curb double taxation and yield immense benefits for states like Kogi.
Despite the gains, Enehe admitted that taxpayer reluctance and weak enforcement remain major obstacles. He urged residents to embrace prompt tax payment to attract more dividends of democracy and accelerate development.
The chairman pledged to sustain KGIRS’ collaboration with journalists in publicizing its activities, stressing that transparency and accountability were critical to sustaining public trust.
Earlier, NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman, Mr. Segun Salami, said the Stewardship Forum was designed to provide a platform for leaders to render accounts of their achievements and challenges in office.
