Kano Royal Tussle: CP Gumel meets heads of media stations, calls for responsible journalism

****Commends Media Executives for support, cooperation in promoting the peace in Kano State

The Kano State commissioner of police CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, on Friday, 31st of May, 2024 met with heads of media stations in Kano State during which he emphasized the critical role that media play in maintaining peace and order, particularly with regards to the ongoing issues around chieftaincy matters in the Kano State Emirate Councils.
The police public relations Officer, Kano State Police Command, SP Abdul Haruna in a statement made available to newsmen pointed out that in the light of the prevailing circumstances and in consideration of the potential impact the media and news content provides, he urged media representatives to exercise utmost caution in their reportage to prevent dissemination of fake news, misinformation, disinformation or news that could potentially destabilize the relative peace being enjoyed in the State.
“The Heads of the Media Stations in the meeting commended the CP for acknowledging the role that the media played in promoting peace, and also pledged their continued cooperation in ensuring accurate, balanced, and responsible reportage as part of their patriotic civic responsibility.
“The Commissioner of Police while appreciating the Media Executives for their support and cooperation, also stressed that credible journalism not only upholds the principles of ethical reportage, but also contributes to fostering a harmonious and peaceful environment for everyone to live.”
