INEC Confirms Readiness for Kano Assembly By-Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded preparations for the upcoming Kano State House of Assembly by-elections in Kano Municipal and Ungogo Local Government Area constituencies.
The elections were triggered by the passing of the two lawmakers representing the constituencies, creating vacancies in the state legislature. The by-elections aim to restore equitable representation and reinforce grassroots democratic governance.
Speaking on Thursday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kano State, Ambassador Abdullahi Zango, said over ten political parties had indicated their intention to participate in the polls. He assured that INEC is fully prepared, with arrangements in top gear to ensure a smooth, credible, and hitch-free election.
Zango urged eligible voters to turn out in large numbers, emphasizing that all contestants would enjoy a level playing field.
“Our preparations are complete, and we are committed to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections. We encourage voters to exercise their civic duty responsibly,” he said.
The Kano Assembly by-elections are being closely watched as a test of INEC’s readiness and electoral integrity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
