FG Launches HOPE Programme to Unlock Economic Potential, Drive Inclusive Growth

The Federal Government has launched a bold new initiative to boost inclusive economic development through targeted investment in human capital.
Director of Information and Public Relations, Mohammed Manga in a statement indicated that the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity (HOPE) programme officially kicked off Wednesday with the inaugural meeting of its National Steering Committee in Abuja.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, participated in the session alongside key members of the Federal Executive Council. The committee is chaired by the Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, and co-chaired by ministers overseeing Finance, Education, Health, and Women Affairs, among others.

Describing HOPE as a transformative platform to unlock Nigeria’s economic potential, Edun said the initiative is central to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic renewal agenda, which prioritises investment in people as the foundation of long-term prosperity.
“The President’s vision is clear: prosperity must be inclusive. No one is to be left behind,” Edun stated.
The Minister urged all states to come onboard, noting that five states and the Federal Capital Territory have already joined. He highlighted the urgency of preparing Nigeria’s youth for the future, with African countries projected to account for 25% of the global workforce over the next three decades.

Edun reaffirmed the Finance Ministry’s commitment to supporting the swift passage of the Boreum Plan—of which HOPE is a central pillar—before the National Assembly’s summer recess.
The plan outlines a financing strategy for nationwide, state-led interventions in primary healthcare, education, and social development, aligned with global best practices.
