DSS Arrests Man Who Used Own Social Media Handle to Call for Military Coup

…Suspect in Rivers State cooperating with investigators

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Innocent Chukwuma in Oyigbo, Rivers State, after the man used his social media account to urge the military to overthrow the elected government, security sources said.
Chukwuma — who posts on X under the handle @TheAgroman — published a series of posts calling for a coup and urging Nigerians to back the military to “suspend the Nigerian government.” In one message shared by sources, he wrote:
“A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigerian Government, and join the AES. That is all we need now.
It will happen eventually. Nigerians, the military needs your support now! Only them can save this country.
The bastard in Aso Rock has basically sold this country to the West, and they run our intelligence apparatus. Only the military can reset this country. Support them.”
A DSS insider told reporters that Chukwuma was traced to Oyigbo and taken into custody. The source added that the suspect is cooperating with investigators, though the agency has yet to release an official statement or file any charge publicly.
Incitement to overthrow a democratically elected government is a grave allegation in Nigeria and may attract prosecution under relevant national security and criminal statutes. The DSS routinely investigates statements and actions deemed a threat to national security, including calls for violent unrest or unlawful seizure of power.
Calls for comment to the DSS and Chukwuma’s social-media account were not immediately returned.
This arrest follows growing concerns about political polarization and the misuse of social media platforms to spread calls for violent or extra-constitutional action. Observers say security agencies are increasingly monitoring online activity for signs of organized attempts to destabilize the country.
