Defence Minister Badaru Accompanies Service Chiefs to NASS for Screening
The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, on Wednesday led the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs to the National Assembly for their official screening and confirmation hearings.
The nominees—Lt Gen O. O. Oluyede (Chief of Defence Staff), Maj Gen W. Shaibu (Chief of Army Staff), Rear Admiral I. Abbas (Chief of Naval Staff), and Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke (Chief of Air Staff)—appeared before the Senate and House of Representatives in line with constitutional provisions guiding military appointments.
At plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the nominees’ records of professionalism, competence, and distinguished service to the nation, assuring that the Senate would uphold merit and transparency in the confirmation process.
Following the Senate session, the Minister and the nominees proceeded to the House Committee on Defence, chaired by Hon. Babajimi Benson, for further legislative engagement.
Personal Assistant on Media & Publicity to the Honourable Minister, Mati Ali in a statement indicated that the screening drew attendance from senior military officers, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj Gen E. A. P. Undiandeye, as well as family members and other dignitaries who gathered to witness the historic occasion.
He quoted Badaru to have reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the new Service Chiefs in achieving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for a secure and stable Nigeri through enhanced inter-service collaboration and professional excellence.
