CUPP Slams Tinubu’s Government, Disowns Fake Endorsement of APC’s Infrastructure Claims

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has strongly denied reports suggesting that it endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration over its handling of infrastructure development, describing the story as false, misleading, and politically motivated.

In a statement issued in Abuja and signed by its Media Committee Chairman, Barrister Chukwudi Ezeobika, the Coalition accused “certain elements within the APC government” of orchestrating the misinformation to weaken the CUPP’s critical stance on the nation’s deepening economic crisis and the hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians.

Ezeobika said the Coalition never authorised or participated in any road inspection, particularly along the Abuja–Lokoja–Benin corridor, contrary to reports published in some national dailies, including The Punch.

“The CUPP categorically disassociates itself from the alleged endorsement. We view it as a calculated attempt by the APC government to distort facts and misrepresent our long-standing position on the worsening governance and infrastructure collapse in Nigeria,” he said.

The Coalition expressed outrage over what it called the deplorable condition of federal roads and other critical infrastructure nationwide, accusing the Tinubu-led administration of failing to demonstrate vision, competence, or empathy for citizens’ suffering.

According to the statement, the administration’s rising external debts have failed to translate into visible progress in key sectors such as transportation, health, education, electricity, and security. Instead, Nigerians continue to endure dangerous road journeys marked by accidents, kidnappings, and attacks by armed groups.

“This government has become a symbol of failure, borrowing recklessly without results, while insecurity and poverty deepen daily,” Ezeobika added.

The CUPP declared that, in its assessment, the Tinubu administration represents “the worst democratic government Nigeria has experienced since 1999,” accusing the President of stifling democracy and eroding the rule of law.

The Coalition reaffirmed its resolve to stand with the Nigerian people, defend democratic values, and hold the ruling party accountable for its “ineptitude and lack of purpose.”
