Biafra Leader Condemns Finland’s Investigation of Simon Ekpa as Political Persecution

****Dr. Orabueze Accuses Finland of Enabling Nigeria’s Repressive Tactics Against Biafrans
Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of Staff to the United States of Biafra (USB), Dr. Ngozi Orabueze, has issued a strong condemnation of the Finnish government’s investigation into Biafran independence advocate Simon Ekpa, calling it “a grave act of transnational repression carried out to appease the Nigerian government for economic benefits.”
The comments come following the publication of an update by Yle News, in which Finland’s Central Criminal Police confirmed that Ekpa is being investigated for “public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent” and for “participation in the activities of a terrorist group.”
Chief Investigator Otto Hiltunen claimed the probe is being carried out in collaboration with Nigerian authorities.
Dr. Orabueze fired back, accusing Finland of compromising its democratic values by aligning itself with a government “globally recognized for the persecution of Christians, forced disappearances, and systemic human rights abuses.”
“This investigation is not about law or justice. It is a political move designed to discredit a liberation movement that has chosen peaceful self-determination over violence,” Orabueze said.
“Simon Ekpa leads a government-in-exile recognized by over 50 million Biafrans who voted for their independence. Finland is now attempting to brand that democratic aspiration as terrorism.”
He questioned the basis of Finland’s claims, noting that no member of the Biafran cabinet had been interviewed or consulted in the six-month-long investigation. “How can Finland claim neutrality or objectivity when it hasn’t engaged even a single member of the government whose freedom it is investigating?”
Dr. Orabueze also challenged Finland to provide evidence for its claim that four Biafrans were allegedly financing terrorism.
“Were these names provided by the Nigerian government without verification? If so, then President Alexander Stubb’s Finland is enabling a regime known for silencing dissent and persecuting religious and ethnic minorities.”
He added that several Biafran citizens in Finland and Nigeria have had their bank accounts frozen and their civil liberties violated, based solely on vague accusations tied to this investigation.
Calling for the immediate release of Simon Ekpa and all Biafrans unjustly detained, Dr. Orabueze warned that Finland’s actions set a dangerous precedent.
“This is not just about one man. It is about a nation’s right to exist. Finland must choose between aligning with tyranny or standing on the side of freedom and justice.”
He also reminded the international community that multiple reports of atrocities committed against Biafrans by the Nigerian state had already been submitted to Finnish and international authorities, yet no meaningful action had been taken. “Ignoring these abuses while persecuting the victims’ leaders is moral bankruptcy at its peak,” he said.
The statement concluded with a call for global attention to what Dr. Orabueze described as “a coordinated campaign to crush the hopes of millions who have chosen peace, identity, and self-rule over continued marginalization.”
