The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the activation of comprehensive security measures across the state as part of efforts to prevent and combat violent crimes.
The move, according to the Command, aligns with directives from the Inspector-General of Police and is being implemented under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, the Command disclosed that intelligence-led policing has been intensified, alongside increased patrols and strategic deployment of personnel across all local government areas of the state.
The statement noted that high-risk areas such as farmlands, forests, waterways, and major access routes are now under sustained surveillance through coordinated day and night operations.
It added that special security operations, including intelligence-driven stop-and-search duties, have been introduced at critical points to intercept criminal elements and prevent potential breaches. Tactical units and patrol teams have also been repositioned to boost visibility and ensure rapid response to emergencies.
To strengthen operational efficiency, the Command said it is working closely with sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Defence Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to enhance intelligence sharing and coordinate joint operations.
The police also revealed that community engagement and sensitisation campaigns are ongoing across the state. Residents were urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious movements, and cooperate fully with security agencies.
Traditional rulers, community leaders, religious institutions, and youth groups were specifically called upon to support ongoing efforts by providing credible and timely information that could aid security operations.
For prompt response to emergencies, the Command released dedicated helplines for public use. Residents are advised to contact the police through the following numbers: 08039213071, 08028916010, 08020913810, 09040000065, and 09169839215.
The Command assured that all information received would be treated with urgency and strict confidentiality.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities, stressing that the Command would not tolerate any threat to peace and security in the state.
Residents were also cautioned against spreading unverified information and advised to rely only on official updates from the police and other authorized security agencies.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Command stated that it remains resolute in its duty to protect lives and property, pledging sustained efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment across Akwa Ibom State.
