Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Suspected Cultists, Rapists, and Armed Robbers in Abak
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five suspected cultists and armed robbers in connection with a disturbing case of armed robbery and rape reported in Abak Local Government Area.
The suspects were apprehended following a covert investigation launched after a man lodged a formal complaint that he and his female guest were attacked at a guest house in Abak on June 26, 2025. The assailants allegedly broke into the victim’s room, robbed him of valuables, and raped his female companion.
Acting on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, operatives of the command’s investigation unit raided the suspects’ hideout at about 11:10 PM on July 30, 2025, leading to the arrest of the following individuals: Richard Edet Udo, Hope Unibong Anitie, Joseph Ibongidi, Christian Joseph Johnny and Joseph Joseph
During the raid, operatives made a chilling discovery: two coffins filled with used sanitary pads, photographs of people, and other fetish materials, believed to have been stored inside what appears to be a cult shrine.
Police say the operation marks a significant step in dismantling a notorious criminal ring operating in the area. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who are currently at large.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has reassured residents of its commitment to combating crime and urges members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
