NGO Trains 146 Participants on Climate Action to Tackle Erosion in Nasarawa
Ecosphere Blue-Green Solutions, a Lafia-based environmental non-governmental organisation, has trained 146 participants on climate-smart agriculture, climate advocacy, agricultural technology, and tree planting as part of efforts to address erosion and climate change challenges across Nasarawa State.
Speaking during a two-day capacity-building programme themed “Act Now, Get Involved, Join Us in Building Climate Smart Communities through Nature-Based Solutions,” the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Adamu Alhassan-Hussaini, said the initiative was designed to promote environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices such as afforestation.
He explained that the training focused on strengthening climate-smart solutions and improving public attitudes toward environmental protection under the broader theme of “Scaling Climate Change Response in Nasarawa State and Reforming Attitudinal Approaches to the Environment.”
According to him, the programme aimed to sensitise individuals and institutions—both public and private—on the need to reduce activities that worsen erosion, including unsustainable farming practices, mining, and construction activities.
Alhassan-Hussaini further emphasised the importance of tree planting and replacing felled trees to mitigate the impact of windstorms and soil erosion, stressing that collective action is essential to achieving lasting environmental resilience.
A resource person, Bawa Yahaya Ainaka, delivered a lecture titled “Ethics and Principles for Organisational Development,” where he highlighted the role of ethical standards in strengthening institutional effectiveness in environmental governance.
Participants, including Zainab Umar, Mercy Chinonso-Amaefule, and Anyangwa Oyose-Mathew, expressed appreciation for the training, noting that it had enhanced their understanding of climate issues and pledged to apply the knowledge in their respective communities.
The programme concluded with a question-and-answer session and the presentation of certificates to participants, drawing attendees from various media organisations across Nasarawa State.
