Peter Obi Rejects Daniel Bwala’s Alleged Political Deal

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has dismissed claims by lawyer and political commentator Daniel Bwala that he tried to recruit him ahead of the 2023 elections.
Obi urged Bwala and others engaged in what he called “transactional politics” to count him out and instead join the push for a new Nigeria.
The response comes after Bwala alleged that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had approached him to work with Obi — a claim he said he rejected.
In a statement Friday, the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) dismissed Bwala’s claims as false, describing them as an attempt to mislead the public following his controversial interview with Al Jazeera.
“Obi has never engaged in the type of political dealings suggested by Bwala,” the statement said. “He deliberately distances himself from transactional politics and individuals associated with it. Participation in his movement is voluntary, based on shared vision and commitment to good governance.”
POMR added that Obi would rather channel resources to public good than indulge in political scheming. “The Peter Obi Nigerians know would provide desks for children in Bwala’s village than pay him to fabricate falsehoods,” the statement said.
The clarification comes amid rising political debates as the 2027 elections draw nearer, highlighting Obi’s stance against political transactions and his commitment to principled engagement.
