Disu Appoints Anthony Placid As New Force Spokesman

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anthony Placid, as the new Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force.
Placid takes over from Benjamin Hundeyin, who relinquished the role following a recent redeployment within the police hierarchy.
The announcement was made on Sunday in a statement issued at the Force Headquarters in Abuja by Hundeyin, who signed off in his capacity as the outgoing spokesman.
Placid brings to the position nearly three decades of policing experience covering administration, intelligence, operations, training and international peacekeeping assignments.
Born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the new police spokesperson hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo and a Master’s degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos. He also obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the National Open University of Nigeria.
Placid joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Police Academy in Kano in 1996 and was formally commissioned in August 1998.
Over the course of his career, he has attended numerous professional courses, including the United Nations Peace Operations Specialised Training programme, where he received certifications in police studies, international humanitarian law, human rights, civilian protection and gender awareness.
His international experience includes serving as Chief of Training for the African Union Mission in Sudan and later as Head of Training and Development with the United Nations Mission in Darfur.
Within Nigeria, Placid has held several operational roles, including Divisional Police Officer in Calabar, Bakassi, Uruan and Gembu, as well as Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Robbery Unit in Kaduna State.
He also served as Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Akwa Ibom and Kogi states, Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Intelligence Department in Abia State, and Deputy in charge of Administration and Finance at Zone 3 Headquarters in Yola.
Placid is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and has also worked as a trainer on international humanitarian law with the International Committee of the Red Cross.
He is a graduate of the Senior Executive Course 47 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, where he was inducted as a Member of the National Institute (mni) in December 2025.
Married with children, the new Force spokesperson enjoys music and sports including football, basketball, table tennis and badminton.
