Heightened Tension as Kebbi University Shuts Down Suddenly

Orders Students Off Campus

The Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, Kebbi State, was thrown into confusion on Friday after the institution’s management ordered an abrupt and total shutdown, directing all staff and students to vacate the campus immediately.
In a memo issued from the Office of the Registrar and Secretary to Council — and obtained by News Point Nigeria — the university announced that the closure takes effect at once, affecting every category of learner, from postgraduate and undergraduate students to diploma, remedial and IJMB candidates.
The directive, signed by Registrar Maimaro Tilli, gave students just one hour to leave the premises, warning that the institution’s Security Division had been instructed to evacuate anyone still found in hostels or other restricted areas after the deadline.
Even students living off-campus were not spared. Those residing in nearby communities, including Gidan Rami, were strongly advised to vacate their lodgings to avoid what the memo described as potential “embarrassment” by university security operatives.
While no official explanation accompanied the sudden announcement, the university noted that the closure would remain indefinite.
Sources within the institution, however, revealed that the move may be tied to escalating security concerns affecting schools and colleges across northern Nigeria, prompting precautionary measures to protect students and staff.
