Timi Frank Criticises Cameroon Election Outcome
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has condemned the declaration of 92-year-old Paul Biya as winner of Cameroon’s recent presidential election, describing it as “a travesty of democracy and a mockery of the people’s will.”
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, Frank said the results announced by the Cameroonian authorities were “a manufactured script aimed at extending tyranny,” warning that the world must not turn a blind eye to what he called “the strangulation of democracy in broad daylight.”
“The so-called results are pure fiction — a betrayal of the people’s mandate and a disgrace to democratic values,” Frank said.
“The world must not stand by while a regime drenched in corruption and repression steals another generation’s future.”
Frank lamented that peaceful protesters who took to the streets to reject the results have been met with gunfire, arrests, and brutality by state forces. He demanded urgent international action to halt the killings and bring those responsible to justice.
“Cameroonian citizens are being shot for daring to demand that their votes count. This bloodshed must stop immediately,” he declared.
“Those who ordered and executed these crimes must face the International Criminal Court (ICC). The United Nations must not remain silent.”
The activist, who also serves as Ambassador of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) to East Africa and the Middle East, accused the African Union (AU) of betraying its founding principles through its inaction.
“The AU’s shameful silence in the face of such daylight electoral theft is complicity, not neutrality,” he said.
“When people are denied peaceful change, they are pushed toward despair. This hypocrisy is what fuels coups and chaos across Africa.”
Frank called on the United States, the European Union, and the United Nations to impose targeted sanctions on Biya’s regime — including travel bans, asset freezes, and suspension of military cooperation — to send a clear message that dictatorship has consequences.
“Those who rig elections, massacre citizens, and destroy institutions must be made to pay a heavy price,” he stated.
“Anything less will embolden other despots to follow the same script.”
He declared that the true winner of the Cameroonian election is Issa Tchiroma Bakary, whose victory “reflects the authentic voice of the people.”
“The international community must recognise Issa Tchiroma Bakary as the legitimate leader and pressure Biya to relinquish power,” he said.
Frank urged Cameroonians to remain resilient and united in defending their democracy through peaceful means.
“To the courageous people of Cameroon: do not surrender your nation to fear. The world is watching, and history will vindicate your struggle,” he affirmed.
He concluded by warning that global inaction would set a dangerous precedent across Africa.
“If the world fails to act, it tells every tyrant that democracy can be bought and blood can be spilled without consequence. That cannot be the legacy of our generation. The time to act is now,” Frank declared.
