Nigeria Takes the Spotlight: Hosting Africa’s Premier Tourism Summit in 2025
Nigeria is stepping into the global tourism spotlight as it prepares to host the 68th Meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF) in June 2025.
The high-profile event, themed “Boosting the Social Impact and Education in Tourism through Innovation, AI, and the Creative Industries,” will bring together tourism ministers and key stakeholders from across the continent to shape the future of Africa’s tourism industry.
Announcing the country’s readiness, Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, described the meeting as a “transformational opportunity” not only for Nigeria but for the entire African continent.
“This is more than a meeting—this is a moment to redefine Africa’s tourism narrative through innovation, collaboration, and the power of our cultural heritage,” Musawa said. “We are excited to host, to share, and to lead.”
Special adviser on media and publicity, Dr Nneka Ikem Anibeze qto the minister quoted Musawa to have emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to showcasing its resilient tourism sector, while promoting the broader economic benefits of tourism across job creation, infrastructure, and local enterprise.
“From accommodation and transportation to creative arts and tech, the tourism sector is a major catalyst for economic diversification and youth empowerment,” she added.
The CAF 2025 summit will serve as a continental think-tank, focusing on sustainable tourism development, with sessions targeting artificial intelligence, education, and innovation—especially aimed at unlocking new opportunities for African youth.
Elicia Grandcourt, head of the visiting UN Tourism delegation, praised Nigeria’s preparation and potential:
“We’re confident Nigeria will deliver a world-class experience. This summit is not just about tourism—it’s about tech, youth empowerment, and reshaping Africa’s image globally,” she said.
She announced that CAF 2025 will include technical workshops on leveraging AI and innovation to modernize tourism, enhance education, and promote social impact.
With a proven track record—having hosted four previous CAF meetings—Nigeria is already mobilizing logistics. According to Dorothy Duruaku, Director of International Tourism Relations and Cooperation:
“We’re ready. Site inspections for venues and hotels begin immediately. Our team is committed to delivering excellence on every front.”
CAF 2025 will be held in Abuja from June 11 to 13, 2025, and is expected to attract influential leaders, innovators, and creatives from across the continent and beyond.
As Nigeria takes center stage, the world watches with anticipation—not just for a conference, but for the unfolding of Africa’s next chapter in global tourism.
