FCT-IRS Calls for Tax Compliance to Drive Abuja’s Transformation Agenda
The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has issued a clarion call to all employers of labor within the FCT to file their employees’ annual tax returns for 2024 ahead of the January 31, 2025 deadline.
Head, Corporate Communications, of the service, Mustapha Sumaila said the move is crucial to support the government’s developmental agenda and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
Citing Section 81 of the Personal Income Tax Act (PITA) 2011 (as amended), the FCT-IRS reminded private companies, Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and sole proprietorships of their legal obligation to file detailed annual returns of employee emoluments and taxes deducted.
At a recent stakeholders’ engagement, Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT-IRS, Mr. Michael Ango stressed that non-compliance would attract severe penalties.
He, however, underscored the agency’s preference for voluntary compliance, describing it as the foundation of effective tax administration.
“Meeting these obligations not only helps avoid sanctions but also contributes directly to the transformation of the FCT into a modern, world-class city under the leadership of His Excellency, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike CON,” Ango stated.
The FCT-IRS emphasized that tax revenues are essential for sustaining infrastructure projects, improving public services, and fostering economic growth in Abuja.
Employers are urged to access and submit the prescribed forms promptly to avoid last-minute rushes.
By aligning with the FCT-IRS mandate, stakeholders have the opportunity to actively participate in building a vibrant and financially sustainable capital city.
