Echocho threatens legal action over photo linking him to Erico

Senator Isah Jibrin, popularly known as Echocho, has threatened legal action against those he accuses of spreading misleading claims about an alleged meeting with Chief Joseph Ameh Erico.
In a Monday statement, the senator’s media office said a photograph circulating on social media had been misrepresented to suggest that he held a private meeting or reached a political understanding with Erico.
It said the photo only showed him at a public political gathering alongside another person, and does not prove any private engagement between the two.
The office described the reports as false and misleading and accused those circulating them of building a narrative the photograph does not support.
The office also raised concern over the growing misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms to manipulate information and shape public perception. It warned that fabricated content and unverified claims could mislead citizens, distort political discourse and cause unnecessary confusion.
APC membership reaffirmed
The statement said Echocho remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is focused on his legislative duties and the representation of Kogi East Senatorial District. It added that he will not be distracted by what it called attempts to create confusion around his political position.
The office said it reserves the right to seek redress through lawful channels against those responsible for malicious falsehoods.
It did not name the people behind the claims or announce any formal legal proceedings.
It urged the public to verify photographs and social media reports before sharing them, especially those involving political figures and alleged alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
