The Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria (FFDGN) has marked the 66th birthday of its National Chairman, Dr Chris Akomas, highlighting his continued involvement in governance issues years after leaving elective office.
In a birthday message issued in Abuja, the forum’s Director-General, Dr Kenneth Ibe-Kalu, described Akomas as an experienced public servant who had continued to contribute to national discussions through the forum.
Ibe-Kalu said Akomas had brought his experience from government and public administration to the leadership of the FFDGN, helping to create platforms for former deputy governors and other stakeholders to discuss Nigeria’s development challenges.
According to him, the national conferences organised under Akomas’ leadership have encouraged the exchange of ideas on governance, democratic development and the welfare of Nigerians.
He said Akomas had also remained committed to policies aimed at improving living conditions and addressing basic needs across the country.
Ibe-Kalu described the former Abia deputy governor as a leader who had remained committed to issues he believed could advance society, urging Nigerians to celebrate his contributions on his 66th birthday.
Akomas’ public service career spans elective office, federal appointments and administrative positions.
He served as Deputy Governor of Abia State and later represented the state as a Federal Commissioner on the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), where he also chaired the Indices and Disbursement Committee.
He previously served as Abia Commissioner for Lands and Survey and held administrative positions with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).
Akomas holds a PhD in Applied Psychology from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, and a master’s degree in Personnel Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
He is also the National Secretary of the South-East Stakeholders Forum.
The FFDGN, a non-partisan organisation comprising former deputy governors from Nigeria’s 36 states, provides a platform for members to share their experiences in government and contribute ideas on democratic governance and socio-economic development.
