The 2027 Adamawa governorship race is gaining momentum as a Christian youth group announces plans to take its campaign for Allied Peoples Movement candidate, Abdulrahman Bashir Haske, to all 226 wards in the state.
The Adamawa State Youth Christian Movement for Change said it had endorsed Haske after consultations, prayers and an assessment of the leading contenders for the governorship.
The group said its decision was based on what it described as Haske’s record in youth empowerment, business, philanthropy and humanitarian work.
Its Chairman, Comrade Yakuba Maigari, said the movement brings together Christian youths from churches and communities across Adamawa’s 21 local government areas.
“Our decision was not based on sentiment, but rather on track records, capacity and character,” Maigari said.
The group said it was backing Haske because it believed the state needed leadership focused on unity, development and economic opportunities for young people.
“Adamawa needs a healer, not a divider,” Maigari said, describing Haske as a compassionate leader committed to helping people.
The movement said its campaign would focus on young people, women, security, job creation and development.
But beyond the endorsement, the group signalled an aggressive grassroots campaign ahead of the election.
It said its members would mobilise support for Haske across the 226 wards and engage communities through its networks.
“We will canvas votes for Abdulrahman Bashir Haske in all nooks and crannies of Adamawa State,” the group said.
The movement also called on residents who share its development concerns to join its campaign.
The endorsement comes shortly after Haske left the All Progressives Congress and joined the APM, where he emerged as the party’s governorship candidate.
Haske had earlier contested for the APC governorship ticket.
He has said his campaign agenda will focus on agriculture, infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic empowerment, security and accountable governance.
The latest endorsement gives the APM candidate another grassroots mobilisation platform as political activities build up ahead of the 2027 Adamawa governorship election.
