Why Uzodinma Lost Out: Group Backs Yari for Tinubu’s Campaign

The reported choice of former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, to lead President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign has drawn support from a political group.
The group, led by Chief Stanley Ibe, said Yari’s political experience would be useful in coordinating support for Tinubu as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement, Ibe congratulated Yari and praised President Tinubu for what the group described as a strategic decision.
The group said the campaign leadership requires a politician who can work with different interests within the APC and mobilise support across the country.
The statement also addressed reports that Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, had been considered for the campaign leadership position.
According to the group, the decision not to appoint Uzodinma should be viewed within the wider political calculations ahead of the 2027 election.
It alleged that some APC governors had reservations about Uzodinma leading the campaign. However, the group did not provide independent evidence to support its claims about an alleged ₦800 billion campaign fund.
The allegation could not be independently verified and should not be treated as an established fact.
The group maintained that Yari’s reported selection could help strengthen cooperation among APC leaders as the party begins preparations for the next presidential election.
The development highlights the importance of campaign leadership as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general elections.
Neither the Presidency nor Governor Uzodinma was quoted in the statement as responding to the allegations.
