2027: KWLL Reaffirms Power Rotation, Backs Sen. Karimi
***Describes Kogi East Elites Forum as “Attack Dogs”
The Kogi West Leaders League (KWLL) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Senator Sunday Karimi and the district’s legitimate quest to produce the next Governor of Kogi State in 2027.
Reacting to a recent press briefing by the Kogi East Elites Forum, KWLL dismissed the group as a hastily assembled “emergency vehicle” sponsored to undermine the longstanding power-rotation demand of Kogi West. The group accused the forum of acting as “attack dogs,” deployed to sabotage the region’s democratic aspirations.
The statement was jointly signed by Group Captain Denja Mahmud (Rtd) representing Oworo in Lokoja, Canon Andrew Baiyekuhi from Kabba-Bunu, Mallam Qassim Yusuf of Ijumu, Dr. James Ogbondeminu from Mopamuro, Engr. Omobowale Palufe of Yagba East, and Chief Samuel Obaro representing Yagba West.
KWLL stressed that no amount of scheming, inducement, or recycled political actors parading under the Kogi East Elites Forum would derail the collective resolve of Kogi West — from Kogi LGA to Yagba West — to secure the governorship (Lugard House) in 2027.
The group also reechoed that Senator Karimi’s remarks during the recent Kabba Day celebration reflect the true and long-standing yearnings of Kogi West. They passed a vote of confidence on his representation, noting that he has delivered quality legislative service and brought dividends of democracy to the district.
KWLL dismissed the criticisms of Dr. Abubakar Rajab and his group as hollow, declaring that recruiting individuals “with tainted public records” to speak for Kogi East is both laughable and desperate. They described the forum as a congregation of failed politicians who have lost relevance and credibility even within their home base.
The group reaffirmed that Kogi West will continue to pursue the governorship through sincere dialogue with stakeholders from Kogi East and Kogi Central — a process they say is already ongoing.
After 34 years of statehood, KWLL insists the principle of equity makes it imperative for Kogi West to finally take its turn. They stressed that justice, fairness, and good governance compel this transition.
“Kogi West has been denied power for too long,” KWLL said. “Our demand for 2027 is anchored on justice, equity, and the promise of better governance. We will work with like-minded leaders across the three senatorial districts to enthrone true democracy and development.”
The group reminded critics that Kogi Central held power for four years in the old Kwara State and would, by 2027, have enjoyed 16 consecutive years in the current Kogi State — all at the expense of Kogi West.
“The yearning for justice, equity, and good governance cannot be postponed any longer,” they stressed.
