SDP Welcomes New Members, But Insists on Proper Admission Channels

***State Chairmen Warn Against Unauthorized Registration

As the Social Democratic Party (SDP) gains new political heavyweights, the party’s leadership has made it clear that new members must follow the established procedures for integration.

At a meeting held at the Green Minds Hotel Conference Centre in Abuja, the Forum of SDP State Chairmen issued a communiqué emphasizing that while the party remains open to fresh entrants, membership must be processed through the appropriate state structures.

“New members are welcome, but they cannot admit or register themselves,” the communiqué stated, reinforcing that only state leadership has the authority to approve membership. The chairmen cautioned against attempts to bypass these procedures, stressing that party unity and order must be maintained.

Additionally, the forum rejected any proposals to dissolve existing elected structures to accommodate new entrants, asserting that all officials must serve their full terms. The chairmen also warned against any unauthorized attempts to change the party’s name, logo, or constitution without approval from the National Executive Council (NEC).

While welcoming expansion, the SDP leadership remains firm in protecting the party’s democratic principles and identity. The chairmen pledged to resist any influence that could compromise the party’s structure or hand control to personal or sectional interests.

As SDP attracts more political figures ahead of upcoming elections, how these guidelines shape internal cohesion and party dynamics will be closely watched.
