In a bold move to reduce malaria prevalence, the Kogi State Government has earmarked ₦4 billion for a Malaria Prevention Campaign, which includes the distribution of free anti-malaria drugs, rapid diagnostic test kits, and over three million insecticide-treated nets to healthcare facilities across the state.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who launched the initiative at Government House, Lokoja, emphasized his administration’s commitment to eradicating malaria and improving the health and well-being of Kogi residents.

He expressed concern over Kogi State’s malaria prevalence rate of 16%, which exceeds the national target of less than 10%, stressing that the situation demands urgent intervention from all stakeholders.
“Malaria does not discriminate; it continues to claim lives, and we must work together to eliminate it. This intervention will ensure that our communities have access to life-saving malaria treatment and prevention tools,” the governor said.
Governor Ododo warned that the supplies are strictly for public health use and must not be diverted for personal gain. He stated that anyone found guilty of hoarding or selling the items would be held accountable.

Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the health sector, aligning with Federal Government healthcare reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He expressed confidence that the initiative would significantly reduce malaria cases and improve quality of life in Kogi State.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, emphasized the importance of a community-focused approach, ensuring that every household has access to malaria test kits, drugs, and preventive measures.
“This initiative is not just about distributing supplies; it’s about engaging communities to ensure that malaria prevention becomes a shared responsibility,” Dr. Adams noted.
With this multi-billion-naira intervention, Kogi State is taking bold steps to protect its residents, reduce malaria-related deaths, and create a healthier future for all.
