Wike Commissions 2,500-Unit Karmo District Market to Boost FCT Economy
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bar. Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated the newly constructed Karmo District Market in Abuja, marking a significant milestone in the administration’s efforts to promote economic growth and support small businesses.
Represented by the Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, Wike emphasized that the market aligns with the government’s commitment to creating a thriving business environment.
Special Adviser on Media, Austin Elemue in a statement quoted the Minister to have indicated,
“This project reflects our dedication to economic empowerment, job creation, and enhancing commercial activities in the FCT,” he stated.
Developed on a 9.91-hectare land, the market comprises over 2,500 well-structured shops, modern infrastructure, ample parking, clean water supply, and sanitation facilities, ensuring a conducive trading environment.
Group Managing Director/CEO of Abuja Investments Company Limited, Amb. Maureen Tamuno, described the initiative as a core part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at driving economic growth through job creation.
Wike urged traders to maintain the market’s facilities and work collaboratively with relevant authorities to address challenges. He also commended all stakeholders, including Abuja Investment Company Limited and development partners, for their efforts in making the project a reality.
