Wike Backs Trump on Anti-Terror Drive — If It Comes with Technology, Not Troops

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has expressed willingness to support U.S. President Donald Trump’s push to tackle terrorism in Nigeria — but only through the provision of advanced technology, not military intervention.
Wike made the comment on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he weighed in on Trump’s controversial statement accusing Nigeria of tolerating “Christian genocide” and threatening U.S. military action.
The former Rivers State governor said while terrorism remains a grave concern, Nigeria’s sovereignty must be respected. However, he welcomed any form of collaboration that strengthens intelligence and security operations through innovation.
“It’s not enough to say people are dying in Plateau, Benue, and other parts of the country,” Wike said.
“I will support President Trump if he provides technology that can help Nigeria fight terrorism. I’ll support any country offering practical solutions to end insecurity.”
Trump had last week placed Nigeria on the U.S. list of Countries of Particular Concern and ordered the Pentagon to prepare for possible intervention against Islamic extremists allegedly targeting Christians.
Wike’s response marks one of the first measured reactions from a top Nigerian official, balancing openness to global partnership with a firm defense of national sovereignty.
He stressed that technology — not external aggression — holds the key to ending Nigeria’s long war against insurgency, banditry, and sectarian violence.
