Tinubu’s APC Risks 2027 Defeat Amid Economic Woes, Ethnic Tensions – Ezeobika
Former National Legal Adviser of the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC) and 2018 Anambra South senatorial candidate, Chief Barrister Chukwudi Ezeobika, has delivered a damning verdict on the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He warned that the administration’s economic failures, deepening ethnic divisions, and political intolerance could doom the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Ezeobika accused Tinubu of fostering exclusivity rather than unity, asserting that his leadership mirrors the parochialism of past administrations. He noted that instead of bridging Nigeria’s ethnic and political divides, the APC government has exacerbated them, creating a climate of discontent.
“Nigeria is a multi-ethnic nation, and effective leadership must reflect inclusivity. Unfortunately, the Tinubu-led APC has institutionalized political bias, promoting policies that alienate entire regions,” Ezeobika declared.
He pointed to the administration’s failure to balance federal appointments as evidence of entrenched ethnic favoritism. This echoes growing concerns from groups like Afenifere, which has criticized the government’s lopsided appointments, warning that such practices endanger national unity.
Ezeobika also condemned the APC’s handling of insecurity in the South-East, particularly its refusal to engage in dialogue over the prolonged detention of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. He argued that Tinubu’s failure to address these grievances politically and diplomatically would have dire electoral consequences in the South-East and South-South.
“Instead of demonstrating political will, Tinubu has ignored widespread calls to release Kanu. This lack of engagement further alienates millions of Nigerians and ensures the APC will be overwhelmingly rejected in 2027,” he warned.
Beyond political alienation, Ezeobika highlighted the administration’s economic failures, warning that Nigerians are facing unprecedented hardship due to rising inflation, declining job opportunities, and worsening living conditions.
“The economic downturn under this government is unparalleled. Inflation has hit record levels, basic commodities are unaffordable, and unemployment is skyrocketing. Tinubu’s policies have exacerbated economic hardship, pushing millions into poverty,” he noted.
He further criticized the erosion of democratic institutions, stating that the APC’s governance style undermines public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic system.
“The rule of law is under attack, with judicial contradictions and executive overreach defining this administration. Public trust in governance is at an all-time low due to the government’s disregard for democratic principles,” Ezeobika added.
As the 2027 elections approach, Ezeobika predicts that Tinubu’s governance failures will become a rallying point for voters seeking change. His scathing critique underscores a rising sentiment that Nigerians will demand accountability at the ballot box, potentially spelling disaster for the APC.
