Tinubu Leads High-Level Security Meeting to Strengthen National Safety
President Bola Tinubu is leading a critical security meeting with Nigeria’s top military and intelligence officials at the State House, Abuja, as his administration intensifies efforts to tackle rising insecurity across the country.
The closed-door session, confirmed by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun (@DOlusegun), brings together key figures in Nigeria’s security architecture. Attendees include the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke; Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun; and the Director-General of the Department of State Services. Also present is Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence, along with senior security advisers and heads of other relevant agencies.
The meeting comes amid renewed attacks, kidnappings, and banditry, particularly in the North-West and North-Central regions. It is expected to review ongoing operations, assess current deployments, and outline new strategies to enhance counter-terrorism efforts, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and improve rapid-response capabilities nationwide.
President Tinubu has personally overseen intensified security operations in recent weeks, including the successful rescue of 38 worshippers abducted from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. In a post on his verified X handle (@officialABAT), he explained that the rescue followed days of coordinated action under his direct supervision, after he canceled a scheduled trip to the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The President also confirmed the recovery of 51 students abducted from a Catholic school in Niger State, highlighting the administration’s commitment to real-time monitoring of security operations across the country.
“Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety,” President Tinubu stated. “Under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people.”
The ongoing meeting, part of a broader effort to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture following the October 2025 appointments of new Service Chiefs, reflects a renewed focus on frontline policing, intelligence-sharing, and community safety. Analysts say the discussions signal a shift in Nigeria’s security strategy, emphasizing proactive engagement with threats and the protection of citizens over reactive measures.
More details from the meeting are expected later, as the government continues to prioritize citizen security and the restoration of public confidence in the nation’s law enforcement agencies.
