“This Bloodshed Must End”: Northern Senators Demand Action After Zamfara Massacre
A fresh wave of anguish has swept through Northern Nigeria following the mass murder of over 35 civilians in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State—a chilling attack that occurred even after ransom payments were made. In response, the Northern Senators Forum has broken its silence, delivering a powerful message of grief, outrage, and resolve: “This bloodshed must end—now.”
In a statement issued Wednesday, Forum Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, called the killings a “gut-wrenching tragedy”, one that exposes the gaping hole in Nigeria’s security architecture.
“This isn’t just a tragedy for the victims’ families. It’s a blow to our shared humanity,” he said. “Northern Nigeria is not a land of violence. These horrors defy our values of compassion and kinship.”
The Forum extended deep condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Zamfara, describing the attack as a national moral emergency. But their message didn’t end with mourning—it carried a sharpened edge of urgency.
The Senators called for swift, coordinated joint operations between federal security agencies and local vigilantes. They demanded an overhaul in intelligence gathering, faster response times, and real accountability for security failures.
“When people do everything—everything—to save their loved ones, and still end up burying them, that is a catastrophic failure. It cannot be swept under the rug.”
The Forum acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to reinforce the security sector, including budget increases and personnel expansion. But they warned that progress must be visible where it matters most—on the ground.
“Our people want to sleep without fear. They want to send their children to school without dread. They’re not asking for too much—they’re asking for peace.”
In a resolute closing, the Senators vowed to escalate their engagement across all arms of government to ensure that Zamfara’s pain sparks lasting reform—not another forgotten tragedy.
“Northern Nigeria is at a breaking point. We will not stand by. Justice must be swift. Safety must be restored. And the lives lost in Kaura Namoda must not be in vain.”
