Sule Backs NUJ “Tea Break” in Kano, Calls for Stronger Journalists’ Unity
Communication scholar and veteran journalist, Dr. Sule Ya’u Sule, has urged Nigerian journalists to deepen unity and fraternity in order to better serve the public and strengthen democracy.
Sule, an Associate Professor of Strategic Communication at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), gave the charge on Sunday at the Correspondents’ Chapel “Tea Break”, a light social session organised by the Kano chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The former Director-General, Media and Public Relations under ex-Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, described such informal gatherings as essential for relaxation, bonding, and professional exchange.
“I decided to sponsor this event so we can fraternize and socialize. It provides an opportunity to ease off pressure after hectic work, while also reinforcing unity and focus among journalists,” Sule said.
He urged the leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel to sustain the initiative and continue to invite stakeholders and friends of the media.
In his goodwill message, former Kano Commissioner for Information and past President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Halilu Baba Dantiye, hailed Sule as “a veteran journalist who has consistently championed the welfare of the profession.”
He pledged to continue supporting the Correspondents’ Chapel in its positive programmes.

Chapel chairman, Comrade Murtala Adewale, explained that the “Tea Break” was designed to help reporters unwind after demanding assignments and create space for open discussions. He thanked Sule for singlehandedly sponsoring the maiden edition, promising to build on the foundation laid.
The gathering drew prominent personalities including Kano Police PRO, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa; Customs PRO, Tahir Balarabe; NUJ Vice Chairman, Mustapha Gambo; and former Chapel leaders Ibrahim Shuaibu Garba and Lamara Garba, now top government and academic media aides.
