Smart Safety is the Future — NSITF Boss Pushes Digital Shift in Workplace Protection

As Nigerian workplaces grow more complex and fast-paced, employers must rethink how they protect their staff. That’s the strong message from the Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Barrister Oluwaseun Faleye, who is championing data-powered solutions as the new frontline in occupational safety.
Speaking at the opening of a four-day intensive training on Enhanced Occupational Safety and Health in Ibadan, Faleye — represented by the General Manager, Health, Safety and Environment, Mr. Tony Eke — called for a shift from box-ticking compliance to proactive, tech-driven action.
“We’re not just training for today — we’re preparing for the future of work,” he said. “Automated systems, digital tools, and real-time data are no longer optional. They are life-saving essentials that boost productivity and protect human dignity.”
Held at the Kakanfo Inn and Conference Centre, the training marks the beginning of a trilogy of programs backed by the NSITF. Its goal? To equip Nigerian employers and safety managers with modern skills, tools, and strategies to build safer and smarter workplaces.
Faleye said the Fund’s internal operations had already gone digital, and it was time to carry stakeholders along. “This is about capacity, culture, and commitment — and our promise is clear: no worker gets left behind,” he said.
The program, organized in collaboration with Beam Box Projects and Consulting Services Ltd, is one of three running simultaneously in Ibadan. The others, facilitated by Surez Global Resources Nigeria Ltd and Sky Quest Concept Ltd, include: Driving Workplace Safety from a Compliant to Profit-Driven Perspective and Technology and Safeware Skills: Excel for Data Analytics and Visualization
Together, the sessions reflected a major push by NSITF to modernize workplace safety culture and meet its national mandate to promote the health, dignity, and well-being of every Nigerian worker.
