Shaibu Hails Super Falcons, Urges Focus for WAFCON Semis
***Commends NFF Leadership for Steady Support
The Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), H.E. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has congratulated Nigeria’s Super Falcons for their emphatic 5-0 demolition of Zambia in Friday night’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarter-final clash in Casablanca.
Shaibu, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State and a former Bendel Insurance player, described the Falcons’ performance as “ruthless and commanding,” noting it served as a resounding warning to the rest of the continent. “It was a thrilling display of strength, discipline, and world-class experience — a tough lesson for a Zambian side that had shown great promise until they met Nigeria,” he said.
He praised the entire squad, the technical crew, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for their commitment and unity of purpose. “From the first whistle, it was clear that Nigeria meant business. Osinachi Ohale’s powerful header in the second minute set the tone for what became a masterclass in African women’s football,” he added.
Shaibu urged the team to stay focused as they prepare for the semi-final clash, stressing that victory in Morocco is within reach if the players remain mentally and physically grounded.
He also called on Nigerians everywhere to support the Super Falcons, the coaching crew, and the NFF leadership with prayers and encouragement, especially as the team eyes the continental title.
