Peter Obi Visits FCT School, Donates ₦2m to Fix Dilapidated Toilets

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated ₦2 million to improve sanitation facilities at LEA Primary School, Tungan Nasara, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Obi made the gesture shortly after returning from Rome on Wednesday, where he had attended a series of high-level meetings earlier in the day.
Upon arrival in Abuja, he was informed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Dr. Moses Paul (@drmopaul), about the poor state of infrastructure in the school — particularly the deplorable toilet facilities used by pupils and teachers.
Visibly moved by the situation, Obi immediately visited the school to see things for himself. He described the learning environment as “unfit for children” and said no child should be made to study under such dehumanising conditions.
“I was deeply saddened by what I saw. The toilets are in terrible shape and pose serious health risks to both pupils and teachers. No child should learn in such conditions,” Obi said.
The former governor said his donation of ₦2 million was an initial step toward building decent sanitary facilities and improving the school’s overall environment. He also pledged to revisit the school to assess progress once work begins.
“Our children are the future of our nation. Their learning environment must reflect the value we place on that future. Education remains the most critical investment in our national development,” he added.
Obi, who has consistently championed education as the cornerstone of national growth, said Nigeria must treat schools as “sacred grounds of transformation” where children are nurtured to build a better country.
Reiterating his vision for a renewed nation, he concluded:
“A New Nigeria is possible — but only if we start by giving our children a fair and decent chance to learn in dignity.”
