Pentecost Women Mark Mothering Sunday with Fitness, Unity, and Celebration

Women of the Church of the Pentecost, FHA Lugbe, Abuja, marked the 2025 Mothering Sunday with a vibrant fitness event, reinforcing the importance of health, unity, and service to God.

The event kicked off with medical check-ups, followed by a two-kilometer walk, aerobics, and table tennis, all set to uplifting music. Women dressed in sporty outfits actively participated, making fitness a key highlight of the celebration.

President of the Church of the Pentecost Mother’s Union, Mrs. Ifoma Metu, described the event as more than just an exercise. “This reminds us to care for our health and strengthen our bond as mothers. I wish we could do this more often,” she said.

Chairperson of the 2025 Mothering Sunday Committee, Dame Nneka Godbless, emphasized the theme ‘Walking for Life’ as a symbol of togetherness and teamwork.
“I’m thrilled that fitness is now a part of our celebration. It keeps us active and connected,” she stated.

Men also joined the session in large numbers. “Our husbands need fitness too! This helps them stay energized at home and at work,” Dame Godbless added with a smile.

For Mrs. Doris Echefu, the exercise was a much-needed energy boost. “Fitness keeps us strong and healthy. My husband will definitely notice the difference!” she laughed.

Mrs. Stella Chidoka shared a similar sentiment. “I can’t remember the last time I worked out. Look at me sweating—it feels great!” she exclaimed.

Mrs. Njideka Chukwuemeka, a Firefighting Officer, saw the fitness session as a professional advantage. “This program has fired me up! I need to stay fit for my duties,” she said enthusiastically.

Sports Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Fasomo, assured that the initiative would continue. “This is not just about exercise. It’s about strengthening our church community and empowering us in every aspect of life.”

Mothering Sunday is celebrated every fourth Sunday in Lent in the Anglican Communion, serving as a reminder of the love, strength, and dedication of mothers.
