Ododo Moves Against Illicit Drugs, Inaugurates 26-Member Control Committee

The Kogi State Government has reconstituted a 26-member Drug Control Committee to intensify the battle against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, warning that the state will no longer provide refuge for dealers or addicts.
Inaugurating the committee in Lokoja, Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Folashade Arike Ayoade, said the move was a direct response to the rising threat of drug use among youths and its devastating impact on families and communities.
“We all know the effects of hard drugs in our society. The purpose of this committee is to drastically reduce the sale, distribution and use of illicit drugs in Kogi State. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration is determined to ensure the state is not a safe haven for drug dealers or users,” Ayoade declared.

Drawn from ministries, security agencies, civil society, professional bodies and faith-based organisations, the 26-member State Drug Control Committee (SDCC) is expected to work as a think-tank and enforcement support group, driving policies in line with the National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP).
NDLEA Commander in Kogi, Umar Mustapha Yahuza—who will co-chair the committee alongside the Governor’s Wife, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo—hailed the initiative as timely and pledged total commitment to its success.
“This is a bold step. We will work round the clock with other members to ensure Kogi delivers on the objectives of the NDCMP and emerges as a model for drug control in Nigeria,” Yahuza assured.
With its wide membership, cutting across government institutions, traditional rulers, youth groups and religious leaders, the committee is expected to champion aggressive public enlightenment, tighter surveillance and stronger collaboration in the fight against illicit drugs.
