Ododo Links APC Unity to Tinubu’s Reforms, Hails New NWC

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has framed the emergence of a new leadership of the All Progressives Congress not just as a routine political transition, but as a strategic moment to align party stability with national reforms.
Reacting to the outcome of the party’s National Convention in Abuja, the governor congratulated Nentawe Yilwatda and members of the National Working Committee (NWC), describing the process as evidence of internal cohesion at a time when political parties face increasing pressure to remain united and relevant.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Ismaila Isah, Ododo pointed to the consensus-driven nature of the convention as a signal of the party’s evolving maturity.
“The emergence of the new leadership through a peaceful and consensus-driven process brings to the fore the maturity and resilience of our great party,” he said.
But beyond the congratulations, the governor’s message draws a clear connection between party organisation and governance outcomes—arguing that a stable APC is essential for sustaining the reform agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Ododo’s strong endorsement of the President’s policies underscores this alignment. He described key decisions such as fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange unification as “courageous but necessary,” noting that while the reforms have come with short-term challenges, they are gradually laying the groundwork for long-term economic stability.
The governor also highlighted progress in infrastructure, education, and social investment programmes, framing them as indicators of a government pursuing inclusive development despite economic headwinds.
“I rate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s performance highly for the courage, vision and determination to take difficult but transformative decisions,” Ododo stated.
Political observers note that Ododo’s remarks reflect a broader effort within the APC to consolidate public confidence by tying party unity to policy delivery—particularly as economic reforms continue to shape public discourse.
He further credited the President with stabilising the party internally, suggesting that strong central leadership has helped maintain cohesion across different interests within the APC.
At the party level, the governor challenged the newly elected NWC members to move beyond their emergence and focus on performance—urging them to promote inclusiveness, transparency, and service.
The message, analysts say, subtly shifts the narrative from celebration to responsibility, at a time when expectations are high both within the party and among Nigerians.
Ododo reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the new leadership, positioning Kogi State as aligned with the broader vision of national development under the APC.
In essence, his statement underscores a central theme: that the true test of the party’s new leadership will not lie in the smoothness of its emergence, but in its ability to translate unity into measurable progress.
