Ododo Calls for Commitment to Local Government Autonomy, Ethics
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has called on Directors of Local Government and Treasurers to prioritize the principles of local government autonomy and maintain high ethical standards in their duties.
Speaking at an interactive session with local government officials at the Government House in Lokoja, Governor Ododo highlighted their essential role as representatives of the government at the grassroots level.
He stressed that their effectiveness would enhance the relationship between the government and the citizens, leading to greater development in local governance.
Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Ismaila Isah quoted thee Governor to have praised the dedication and hard work of the Directors and Treasurers, noting their crucial role in promoting transparency and accountability within public finance.
He urged them to collaborate and support the Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko, to effectively address challenges in local government administration.
In a show of solidarity, Right Honourable Aliyu Umar, Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, commended Governor Ododo for his commitment to transparent governance, promising that the legislature would continue to back his initiatives to improve grassroots governance.
Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko, in her welcome address, recognized Governor Ododo’s impactful contributions to grassroots development, particularly in empowering youth and women.
Chairman of the forum of Directors, Alhaji Aliyu Musa, expressed appreciation for the Governor’s approval of a minimum wage of 72,500 Naira for state workers and acknowledged the guidance provided by the Accountant General in her professional duties.
