NSITF, NDPC Forge Alliance to Boost Workers’ Welfare and Data Protection
In a significant move to enhance workplace welfare and digital trust, the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) have sealed a strategic partnership focused on safeguarding both employees and their personal data.
At an inter-agency meeting held at the NSITF headquarters in Abuja, the two federal institutions agreed to collaborate on capacity building, compliance with key legislation, and nationwide advocacy campaigns that promote safer work environments and stronger data privacy culture.
Welcoming the NDPC delegation, NSITF Managing Director, Barrister Oluwaseun Faleye, emphasized the importance of mutual compliance with the Data Protection Act 2023 and the Employee Compensation Act 2010, stating:
“As we move to comply with your Act, we also expect your organisation to uphold the spirit of ours by enrolling your workers under the Employee Compensation Scheme.”
Faleye underscored the NSITF’s commitment to data protection, revealing the Fund is already taking steps to appoint a Data Protection Officer and build internal capacity to meet the legal and ethical responsibilities of data custodianship.
He proposed a knowledge-sharing exchange between both agencies, with NSITF offering workplace health and safety training to NDPC staff in return for data protection training for its own personnel.
Looking ahead, the NSITF boss also proposed a joint national advocacy campaign to drive awareness around both agencies’ mandates — a collaboration he believes will foster public trust and institutional synergy.
Responding, the NDPC’s National Commissioner, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, welcomed the partnership and pledged the Commission’s support in realizing the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
“Our agencies play crucial roles in national development. This partnership will help deepen citizen confidence, improve workplace standards, and contribute to the transformation the President envisions,” he said.
The two bodies plan to roll out their joint initiatives in the coming months.
