NRC Set to Restart Abuja–Kaduna Train Service

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is preparing to resume passenger operations on the Abuja–Kaduna route after completing repairs and safety checks on the damaged rail section at Asham.
Train services on the corridor had been suspended since August 26, 2025, following a derailment.
In a statement on Saturday, the NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, said the corporation has restored both the track and the trains to international safety standards.
He added that 512 of the 583 passengers on the affected train have already received refunds, while efforts are underway to compensate the remaining passengers.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of our passengers at all times,” Unyimadu assured.
The corporation also thanked passengers for their patience and acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and other stakeholders throughout the recovery process.
Details of the official restart date and schedule will be announced soon, according to the NRC.
