NECO Releases 2025 SSCE External Results, 71.63% Pass
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for External Candidates, 52 days after the last paper was administered.
Announcing the results at the Council headquarters in Minna on Tuesday, NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, said a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the exams, with 95,160 sitting. Of these, 51,823 were male (53.43%) and 44,375 female (46.63%).
Prof. Wushishi revealed that 93,425 candidates sat for English Language, with 73,167 (78.32%) obtaining credits and above, while 93,330 candidates took Mathematics, with 85,256 (91.36%) achieving credits and above. Overall, 68,166 candidates (71.63%) scored five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, while 82,082 candidates (86.26%) obtained five credits and above in total subjects.
On exam integrity, the Registrar confirmed NECO recorded 9,016 cases of malpractice, a 31% increase from 2024’s 6,160 cases. He disclosed that five supervisors—two from FCT, and one each from Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo—were recommended for blacklisting for aiding malpractice. Additionally, four centers—two from Niger State, one each from Yobe and Kano—were recommended for de-recognition for whole-center malpractice.
Prof. Wushishi reaffirmed NECO’s zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice, emphasizing that the council maintained rigorous standards from exam planning to results release.
He also noted that NECO is owed over ₦2 billion by various state governments, highlighting challenges in funding and operational sustainability.
