National Forum of Former Legislators Applauds Peaceful FCT Area Council Polls

The National Forum of Former Legislators (NFFL) has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, residents of the Territory, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what it described as the peaceful and credible conduct of the recent Area Council elections in Abuja.
In a statement issued Sunday, the forum said the orderly exercise reflects strengthening democratic culture, civic responsibility, and institutional integrity in the nation’s capital.
The group particularly praised the FCT Administration under Wike’s leadership for providing what it called an enabling environment that ensured security, effective logistics, and public confidence throughout the electoral process.
“We particularly commend the FCT Administration under the leadership of the Honourable Minister for providing an enabling environment that ensured security, logistical coordination, and public confidence throughout the electoral process,” the statement read.
The NFFL also applauded INEC and security agencies for their professionalism and transparency, noting that the timely deployment of personnel and materials contributed significantly to the credibility of the elections.
According to the forum, the conduct of residents before, during, and after the polls stood out as a demonstration of democratic maturity.
“Most importantly, we applaud the residents of the FCT for their peaceful participation, maturity, and respect for the democratic process. Their conduct stands as a shining example of civic engagement and responsible citizenship,” the statement added.
The forum maintained that the successful Area Council elections have strengthened grassroots democracy and reinforced public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system. It further urged newly elected officials to justify the trust reposed in them by prioritising accountability, inclusive governance, and effective service delivery.
The FCT Area Council polls were part of ongoing efforts to deepen democratic governance at the local level within the Federal Capital Territory.
